Occupational Stress
Services we offer- Free access to national IDC network of registered Stress Counselors specialising in the management of Occupational Stress. Employers are able to promote this service on Health and Safety notice boards to demonstrate their commitment to the management of Occupational Stress
- Management reports produced, with the referred employees’ permission, to raise awareness of the outcome of any work related concerns and including remedial advice
General Infomation
General definition of stress:
“An adverse reaction that a person has to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed upon them”.
Currently more than half a million employees report work related stress such that it causes them ill-health.
The Health and Safety Executive are currently developing generic management standards to assist employers in the management of Occupational Stress.
Current suggested steps to assist in the management of stress at work:- Identify stressors (causes of stress) in the work place
- Encourage employees and their representatives in developing stress reducing measures in the work place
- Management should be encourage an open and understanding attitude to the subject of stress and to encourage employees to make contact with managers at an early stage if they consider they are suffering from the effects of stress
- Use Occupational Health Services in the management of occupational stress if available
- Provide appropriate instruction and training to all employees on the subject of stress
- Provide information on healthy lifestyles and act to encourage healthy work-life balances
